The True Story of Thanksgiving

Somewhere lost in the urban legend of the traditional meal between the Pilgrims and the Indians lies the real origin of the States’ Thanksgiving holiday. President Lincoln, in an effort to heal a nation torn apart by internal strife, declared a day of thanksgiving to thank each citizen’s higher power for carrying individuals and the nation through trying times. It is as powerful a statement now as it was when it was made in October of 1864.
